Floto+Warner Studio: Colorful Liquid Splashes Captured at 1/3500th of a Second Look Like Floating Sculpturest

Cassandra Warner and Jeremy Floto of Floto+Warner Studio recently produced this beautiful series of photos titled Clourant that seemingly turns large splashes of colorful liquid into glistening sculptures that hover in midair.  The photos were shot at a speed of 1/3,500th of a second, taking special care to disguise the origin of each burst making images appear almost digital in nature (the duo assures no Photoshop was used).

The dream sequence is definitely interesting. One of the things I really do like about Crystal so far is how it seems really very ready — keen, even — to show you the Silver Millennium.

So what I think we’re seeing is a memory that transitions into the video game dream, but there’s definitely a lot to see here.

It’s interesting, for a start, that this time Usagi’s dreaming of Princess Serenity, she’s putting herself directly in that role. Her dream at the start of the episode was all third person, but this time she’s actually experiencing it. There’s no way of knowing if this is the first time that’s ever happened (well unless she says in a minute, I can’t remember), but I don’t think it would be unfair to say that it is.

Usagi’s had a bit of a big day. She clearly had a moment when she saw Luna, and another when she really noticed Mamoru. We didn’t see her have that same moment when she saw Sailor V (not surprising as she’s not actually SEEN Sailor V, she’s seen a video game version), but still V is lodging just as solidly in her brain. Today three very strong, tangible remnants of the past walked up to Usagi and scratched her, insulted her, and made her fight zombies.

Not at ALL surprised that this is opening all KINDS of doors.

Definitely, then, this begins as a memory. Serenity and Endymion running, hand in hand. His sword is drawn. The feeling is definitely one of foreboding. The giant monster, while becoming the dinosaur, begins as I think something very real. Metallia perhaps, or Beryl, though that’s not a visage Usagi’s brain can recall right now (or perhaps handle), so it’s just a scary thing that becomes a two-dimensional less scary thing. What’s crucial in that moment with the scary monster however is its background. Behind it, clear as anything, is Earth.

Without  doubt, this is the Moon. Completely convinced this is moments before they die.

Sailor V appears, and while she too is a bridge to the video game part of the dream, she begins very real (if anachronistic). I think she’s a memory too. She shouldn’t be V, of course. She should be Venus. But I LOVE — I SO love — how Usagi’s subconscious has already made that connection. She KNOWS MInako, without a doubt, even if she doesn’t realize it yet. Usagi is running, and she’s terrified, and here comes V(enus) to protect her.

All the love.

I’m really looking forward to seeing these elements continue across Crystal. I’d love to see more dream sequence from Usagi, filling out as she reunites with these people from her previous life.

The last cap with the video game is even itself still in keeping with faded memories. It’s a barren landscape, not the dungeon/haunted castle we stage we saw Usagi playing in earlier. Also the structure on the right is very reminiscent of the columns we tend to associate with the Moon Kingdom.

Finally, I like representation of Luna being in a cage. Luna is the key. Once Usagi “rescues” her, once Luna is free, everything unlocks, and part of Usagi even now realizes what she’s done.

Voice Actors and Actresses from Avatar The Last Airbender who came back with new characters in The Legend of Korra.

What a cool post! Once again, the hardest working fans in the business. Also, as illustrated by these graphics, if you hear a voice on ATLA/LOK there is a strong chance it was performed by Grey DeLisle. Although Dee Bradley Baker might have more screen time due to all the animal chirps and grumbles. Either way, Grey and Dee could easily voice an entire series together—just the two of them covering all the characters—and the audience would be none the wiser without checking the credits.

Pause. Serena Williams? Which episode. I need to see it. Now.
